This is how you replace a 24 volt contactor inside of an air conditioner.

Make sure all the power is turned off to the air conditioner.

Now remove the thick bottom left wire and bend it down and to the left.

Remove the thick top left wire and bend it out of the way up and to the left.

You got the idea now do the same for the top right and bottom right thickest wire.

Now UN mount the contactor and pull it away from the unit as far as you can with the wires still attached.

Now mount the new contactor exactly where the old one was mounted

contactor

The Coil is the terminals on the left and right.

Now mount the new contactor exactly where the old one was mounted

Now start pulling wires off the old contactor one at a time and put it on the same terminal except on the new contactor. Do this until you have moved every wire and none are left on the old contactor.

Now discard the old contactor

Put the top right wire that you bent out of the way to the top right terminal of the new contactor and same thing for the top left the bottom right and left.

Once all the wires are back in the contactor go through and make sure nothing is touching that isn’t supposed to and make sure every connection is tight. Make sure every spade push on terminal is tight and not loose.

Once this is complete and the contactor is installed, put your amp probe on the unit and start it up.

If the unit starts up and pulls over 30 amps even for a split second, that means your compressor is having trouble started and you need a hard start kit and you also need to think or plan for a new compressor, this one may not last too much longer.

(Note: high starting amps mean a compressor is locked up inside and has trouble getting started.)

If amps are normal below 30 on start then good job you’re done and this air conditioner is fixed.

You could be done but, before we give this air conditioner the all clear lets verify that the machine has o more troubles at the end test.
