You my friend have a restriction in you metering device.

We know that because, your high head pressure and low suction tells me your compressor is pumping but not enough Freon is making it through the metering device which is causing the refrigerant to back up before the metering device and less than normal is coming back through the suction line.

Ever asked yourself what is a restriction in an ac system? Or how do I clear or repair a restriction?

This page will describe in detail how to properly and completely clear any restriction.

First thing to do is recover every ounce of refrigerant until the air conditioner is void of Freon.

Grab a recovery machine, recovery tank, your digital gauges and an extra refrigerant hose.

Hook them all up to your air conditioner and get ready to recover.

Make sure all the dials and nobs are open on the gauges, hoses and tank are all open. Once there all open if done right you will hear the refrigerant immediately start to flow from the ac and into the tank.

Plug in recovery machine and turn it on.

Let it run until your gauges read 0 on the suction pressure.

When the machine is void, disconnect the two suction and head hoses from your gauges leaving them attached to the copper lines.

Go up to the attic and find the distributor that holds the metering device by the ac coil.

With 2 crescent wrenches, open up the metering distributor by turning it lefty loosely. When it comes open be careful not to drop the little white O ring or the orifice itself.

Remove the orifice from device and pay attention to the direction it was inserted.

Now use a small thin screwdriver and a pair of needle nose to tear, rip or pry the screen out of the inside of your refrigerant line.

Go back outside to the condenser.

With a set of oxygen acetylene torches heat up and remove the filter drier, then re-braze in a new filter drier. (Note: pay attention to the direction you install the filter drier, the arrow is supposed to point away from the air conditioner.)

Now grab your tank of compressed nitrogen and your regulator. Hook the regulator to the tank and hook up an extra hose to the regulator.

Now blow high pressure nitrogen through your suction line and then your high side liquid line, one at a time. (Note: This step blows out ant remaining debris from open lines in attic.)

Go back to your indoor unit or furnace and coil.

Place the orifice back into the metering device like it came out, if you forgot its pointy end first, now be sure it fully seats down inside the device.

Now be sure to put the white O ring in.

Screw the metering device back together and tighten it with 2 crescents wrenched, tighten it until it is tight then another ¼ turn.

Ok you’re almost done now all you have to do is vacuum and re-charge the system and you better bet if you did just as I said your restriction is gone.
